The visionary game developer, renowned for co-creating the immensely successful video game Call of Duty, has died in a car accident in California he was 55 years old.

The tragic news was confirmed by Electronic Arts, the parent company of Respawn Entertainment, the development studio he co-founded.

The celebrated industry figure died after his automobile collided and was engulfed in flames on a highway in LA on Sunday morning, US media outlets report.

"This is a heartbreaking loss, and our deepest sympathies go to Vince's loved ones, those closest to him, and the countless individuals inspired by his work," a representative from Electronic Arts said.
