The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Bayern was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
Securing the German international comes at a time when United seem to be building positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further business:
- The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
On the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
