The Mighty Nein's Opening Sequence Selected the Incorrect Critical Role Song

The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated adventure from the beloved role-playing group, revealed a new introductory sequence. It features the beloved group of outcasts, misfits, and criminals fighting hard and taking names, while also hinting at several heart-wrenching personal histories for key figures including Liam O'Brien's mage Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, Fjord.

Overall, the intro appears stunning. But I couldn't help feeling that something was missing in the music selection.

The intro uses "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional song composed by producer and singer the talented musician. This piece from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second release put out by the production company's music division Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a wonderful nostalgic option, and I suspect that fans of the second campaign will love its inclusion.

Personally, The series' opening fails to capture the hype and excitement that accompanied the show's actual-play adventure. "It's Your Turn", composed by singer-songwriter Jason Charles Miller, was an instant classic for me when it was initially unveiled in that year, and it improved further when cast member the performer wrote words to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.

Featuring vocals from one actress, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as the writer, the song was catchy and fun. Back then, I hadn't seen the second campaign yet, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my device. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an installment of adventurous fun.

The show's intro with "Welcome to Wildemount" doesn't strike the right notes in my opinion. It's a grand composition, but from what I know of this party, I can't help but feel that its tone is a little off.

Of course, the creators has already said that the animated show will have some changes and differences from the actual-play campaign. An adjusted mood for its opening appears as one of them.

This animated adventure will be available to watch on Prime Video from November 19. If you can't wait before that, or want a head start to get to know the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are available on Spotify and YouTube.
