Former British Serviceman Accused of Killing Kenya Woman Appears in Courtroom

An individual has shown up before a judge as deportation processes started in the investigation of Agnes Wanjiru, a Kenyan national, a female from Kenya who was murdered near a UK military installation in the year 2012.

Purkiss, 38 years old, who is originally from Greater Manchester, showed up in Westminster magistrates court on Friday, and stated to the court he would challenge the extradition. Sources suggest that he was detained on the evening of Thursday.

An arrest warrant for the suspect was issued by a Kenyan court in Nairobi in the month of September. Legal prosecutors told the Kenyan court that the individual had been facing a sole charge, of killing, and that the government of Kenya would pursue his extradition to answer to accusations.

Purkiss was once employed as a army medic with the Lancaster Regiment, the infantry regiment for the English northwest, including on tours of Afghanistan.

Agnes Wanjiru, twenty-one, a hair stylist who had a young daughter, disappeared after a night on the town, and her corpse was discovered 60 days later in the premises of the lodging where she had previously spotted.

No one had before been taken into custody or charged in relation to her demise. His detention followed a new police inquiry, which came after a report in the year 2021 by a Sunday newspaper, in which the newspaper reached out to several serving and ex-military personnel in the unit.

This inquiry has been headed by investigators from Kenya, which, under a bilateral security treaty, maintains prosecutorial power in the matter.
