Brian Eno Urges Support to Send Together for Palestine Track to UK Christmas No 1.
A campaign is aiming to send a Palestinian lullaby to the top of the UK charts. The project hopes to send support to Gaza's residents while also highlighting Palestinian culture and creativity.
A Possibility for Unity and an "Unlikely Coup"
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a opportunity to support Palestinians during the holidays. He noted the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“It would be incredible if that came to pass, yes,” he stated. “I won't be completely disheartened if it doesn't manage to, holiday tracks are a thing unto themselves.”
Defiant Message of Self-Determination
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the reimagining of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's defiant core message.
“It has a deeply meaningful spot for many individuals,” Barghouti shared. “The message is that I would prefer a dignified death than exist without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we want to live a dignified life that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Production History and Featured Artists
The track was produced following a large-scale benefit event held in late summer. First conceived to be done as a live recording, the piece was shelved during the concert due to scheduling overruns.
The impressive roster of performers appearing on Lullaby encompasses a selection of well-known figures from the scene. All participated in the earlier concert, which successfully generated a considerable total for humanitarian aid.
Final Touches and Availability
Lullaby was produced by a group of producers and composers. The song features a fusion of the heritage language with contemporary English verses.
The group managing the initiative have clarified that their objective is to collect the highest amount for a charitable pot. These resources will be channeled to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an non-profit partner.
“We don’t have a fixed goal,” a spokesperson said. “We’ll go for the maximum achievable. Obviously, the higher the total, the greater the impact. Every penny goes out to Gaza.”
The context in the territory was characterized as its extreme devastation, with a vast majority of infrastructure reportedly destroyed or damaged.
“Against that backdrop, a couple of million doesn’t make that much difference. But I think what does make a difference is primarily spreading knowledge of this plight and demonstrating that another narrative exists.”
The track is set to be released this Friday. Additionally, a complete film of the charity concert will be made ready to watch on a major video platform from later in the month.
